Why we started Marin Buzz

We had the same problem you probably do. We'd explored Marin, loved it, and still ended up at the same four places every weekend. Friends would admit they'd never been somewhere fifteen minutes away and wanted an excuse to go.

Part of that is modern life. Part of it is Marin: a county of small, separate towns, each with its own hidden gems, and no one place where you hear about them. So in early 2025 we started a free email that rounds up the best of what's happening, and a Monday story about the history under our feet. The goal hasn't changed: get people out exploring, and a little more connected to each other and to this ridiculous place we get to live.

So, who are we?

It's a tale as old as Marin. She was born and raised here. He moved to the Bay Area for school and work. They met in San Francisco, had one of their first dates in Sausalito, and he proposed at Blackie's Pasture. We moved back to Marin more than six years ago, have a lot of extended family nearby, and are raising two rambunctious boys. Living the dream, as they say.

How we do it

• We keep it short. Two emails a week, each kept short so you can skim it in about a minute.
• Local businesses keep it free. Marin Buzz is supported by Marin businesses that partner with us, and we only work with ones we'd send a friend to.
• We're independent. No parent company, no algorithm deciding what you see. Just the two of us and an inbox.
